Apr 2010 - NEW PRE-PLUMBED CUBICLE SYSTEM FULLY MANUFACTURED AND MADE READY TO INSTALL OFFSITE

IGLOOS Washrooms have unveiled a new toilet cubicle concept this month which is a pre-plumbed integrated modular cubicle system. This new design was inspired following a demand for a cost saving solution that could be built off site and installed with minimal time and disruption.

IGLOOS inspiration came when working on a project with a very demanding build time, IGLOOS used their previous experience of modular building construction and cubicle systems to develop this product. There are many benefits to the system due to its innovative design elements, for instance; it arrives on site pre-built, pre-plumbed and factory quality checked, it is suitable for all room sizes and can be adapted in colours to suit any environment.

The Manufacturing Director at IGLOOS said “We identified a need in the market for a cubicle system which was prefinished in a controlled environment reducing the need for multiple trades on site. The emphasis was on speed of delivery and on-site construction and we wanted to create a product which removed the restrictions of more traditional pods in size and scope. We have gone from initial concept to development of prototypes and then to an excellent product which has got many architects and specifiers very excited”

Feb 2010 - IGLOOS SLEEP UNDER THE STARS and BIG THANKS TO OUR SPONSORS

3 members of the IGLOOS team spent the night under the stars in Kingston last weekend raising money for the KWYMCA, who are in partnership with Kingston Churches Action on Homelessness.

The evening commenced at 6pm when the participants received a branded thermos and a cardboard box! Later on we were nourished with soup and hot chocolate which was a real treat under the circumstances.

To keep us busy and to provide our home for the evening there was a cardboard shelter competition with a lovely cottage produced by team IGLOOS – see photo of our residence! Sadly it didn’t get a look in with the prizes! The night was very cold and the temperature got down to -3, but luckily due to preparation and successful shelter building, the team were able to bed down for the night. Imagine having to do that every night.....

During the night the team were amongst fellow fundraisers such as hospital staff, church volunteers and residents of the YMCA. One current resident of the Kingston YMCA joined the team for a game of Connect4 and told us a bit about how he ended up being in the YMCA and how the organisation had helped him get back on the right track following alcoholism, losing his home and access to his children. There were also a number of homeless people sleeping in the same area as the team, these were 4/5 men, all with dogs, presumably for protection. That really brought it home.

One member of the team commented “The scary thing about the event was that, knowing it was only for one night was what kept me going, and then I thought, hang on these people have to do it every night and this wasn’t even the coldest it has been! Then everything suddenly became very clear!!!”

Everyone was up at 5.30am starting to pack up ready for the McDonalds breakfast that awaited them back at the church.

The night was a big success, with team IGLOOS raising nearly £700 so far thanks to help from clients, suppliers, family and friends. In total there were 140 people at the event raising over £15,000! Overall it was a great experience and gave us lots of motivation as a company to look closer at how we can do more for charity!

Natasha Mawer, the Sales Director who attended the award ceremony on Friday commented “We are delighted to be nominated for this year’s Loo of the Year Awards achieving a 5 star nomination.  Having never entered the competition before we were even more thrilled to win our National Category in our first year!”

This award is a result of the luxury temporary loos installed at a university over the summer period for graduations and other events and is the second award of the year for IGLOOS following the 2009 Supplier to Industry, Media Today Business Achievement Award back in August.

The Loo of the Year Awards and associated Attendant of the Year Awards for cleaning staff have been identifying the best in Britain since 1987 and are recognised as standard setters for all those who provide 'away from home' facilities for staff, customers and visitors.

Every entry received an unannounced visit from an authorised Loo of the Year Awards Inspector and was assessed against over 100 judging criteria - including signage and decor, fixtures and fittings and overall standards of cleanliness and management. Every loo receives a star grading ranging from I to 5 and five star winners are short listed for one of a number of National Awards covering England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The 2009 Awards were sponsored by Airdri - the UK based leading manufacturer of warm air hand dryers, Remploy - one of the UK's leading providers of employment services and employment to people with disabilities and complex barriers to work and The British Cleaning Council, together with the four national tourism bodies in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Nov 2009 - A new school of thought behind cubicle systems

IGLOOS Washrooms has redeveloped their existing cubicle systems following recent research into common issues associated with school toilets. This research has resulted in designing a new range purely for the education sector, split into pre-school, primary and secondary school ages.

Problems identified by IGLOOS varied according to the age ranges. For example privacy is an issue in primary schools as the pupils are quite self conscious of using urinals, therefore there was a need for urinal partitions and higher cubicles. Poor hygiene and ventilation was found to be a general problem across the board.

IGLOOS has recently completed an installation of the Education range into an under 5’s establishment near Hertford. Due to the age of the pupils at the school the pre-school range was chosen as the most appropriate to be installed. This consisted of 3 cubicles, a 3 bay hand basin unit and one full height cubicle for staff. The school chose to have a simple washroom with 3 plain painted walls with just a colourful rainbow over the hand basin unit to enhance the cubicles as it is already a very colourful range.

Mar 2009 - NEW PROJECTS FOR IGLOOS WASHROOMS

IGLOOS Washrooms is a specialist contractor in washroom design, manufacture, refurbishment and new build in all venues.  Their innovative use of products and materials answers technical, ecological and design demands.

IGLOOS has developed its own line of cubicle systems, which is has recently been used to complete some exciting projects including a 70’s Rollerdisco, a sophisticated restaurant, and a multi-storey YMCA building in the heart of London.

The Central London project at the YMCA involved re-designing an existing unisex washroom area on the 14th floor into separate male/female facilities, whilst overcoming the problematic drainage and plumbing connections and replacing baths with showers.

The brief for the restaurant included keeping an industrial feel whilst creating a sleek, easy to maintain washroom. The design of the rooms made use of the high curved ceilings and exposed ventilation pipes with a seamless cubicle system with additional height.

Hot pink cubicle doors with a wavy white pilaster were installed at the Rollerdisco, in keeping with the brief.  To complement the disco atmosphere in the main hall a “disco ball” effect was created with a mirror mosaic effect surrounding the main vanity mirror.
